About Dorothy

Dorothy was born on the 16 March 1921 at 110 Newport Road, Cwmcarn where she lived with her parents Gladys and Arthur Prosser and her 3 brothers and 2 sisters.

In 1939, after war broke out, Dorothy went to work as a fork lift truck driver at The Northern Aluminium Company in Rogerstone.

In 1947 Dorothy married Arthur Fisher and moved to Abercarn when their first daughter Pat was born.

They moved back to Cwmcarn, then Griffithstown where their 2nd child Kay was born.

They moved to Risca in 1962 but their marriage broke down and Arthur left her in 1971.

Dorothy was a member of Bethany Baptist Church in Risca where she worshipped and made many lifelong friends.

Unfortunately Dorothy’s health gradually deteriorated and in January 2014 she could no longer look after herself and went into Residential Care. She spent the last few years of her life at Gilwern House Residential Care Home in Pontllanfraith where the Management and Staff gave her loving care and attention and took care of her every need. The family would like to express their gratitude to all at Gilwern House for their kindness and professionalism during the time Dorothy was with them.

In January of this year Dorothy developed a chest infection and although she largely recovered It left her weak and tired. Unfortunately further problems developed which confined her to bed and her strength progressively decreased.

She passed away peacefully on 16 March 2018 on her 97th Birthday.
